Entertainment Evening

The annual Altrincham Interfaith Group Entertainment Evening is always an interesting mix of talent from the various faith communities in our area and this year’s show was no exception. It began with children from The Fitzgibbon School of Irish Dancing performing some jigs and reels.

Revd Danny Crosby then sang unaccompanied some meditations that he uses to prepare for prayer. Ann Molyneux played Greig’s Nocturne on the piano.

Ahmad Hussain is an internationally acclaimed Nasheed artist who is preparing for his first tour in America. He had traveled from Sheffield to appear with his friend Sameer Butt. Sameer gave a demonstration of playing a cajon – a box that sounds like a drum kit. Then Ahmad sang songs of peace in English, Arabic and Urdu.

The first half of the show was concluded with the Hindu Temple dance of India called ’Bharatnatyam’ by Nrithya Rammohan the Indian classical dancer. The dancing seemed to use every muscle in her body with each finger tip being precisely positioned, her eyes constantly moving as her facial expression changed.

After a chance for the audience to meet the performers over soft drinks and biscuits the second half of the show started with a popular Bollywood dance by Nrithya

Malka Hodgson and Kerry Barlow sang some Hebrew songs peace and encouraged the audience to join in with gentle enthusiasm. The show was concluded with Selwyn Dorfman, a professional performer who entertained us with a medley of American Jazz by Jewish composers, the audience enthusiastically joined in singing these well known standards.

Thanks to the students from Altrincham Boys Grammar School for their technical support with the sound system.
